Look what I found!

I had a talk with Sue and Hitch today about my illustration project, they said its not quite there yet and is lacking more character of the era such as my poster for vogue in the punk era. I went by the library today to find a brand new book on patterns it has retro to conversational patterns-totally inspired me today! The book design itself is gorgeous with a velvet cover.

Don't Panic-Vogue

I designed a poster for a recent issue using the word vogue for Don't Panic. My piece for Don't Panic has been hand drawn with pen and felt tips to give this energetic feel. Vogue to me like the name of the top fashion magazine is all about glamour, models, something which goes into fashion for a short period of time. The poster is modern and hint of glamour in there.

My Panic exhibition piece

Illustration of myself in a glamorous way until you look closer you see a butterfly which is actually a spider, was experimenting with tricking your eye. The outcome I am happy with maybe could of put it into Photoshop to see what a more professional outcome would look like, although I like it coloured in with pastels.

Noiselab D&AD Exhibition

A new gallery on Market Street Manchester where we have our very own exhibition from tuesday 30th March to 4th April. For this exhibition our have to design a new piece of work either poster or moving image, for this exhibit we decided on the theme "Panic" which Shauna thought up panic is great because we are all panicking with the work and being our last year at uni so this sums us all up pretty well. My piece was an A2 poster printed on matte paper, illustration of self portrait coloured in with pastel crayons, so it has a hands on finish to it rather than perfectly done on photoshop. Doing this work I thoroughly enjoyed making a piece quickly and it can go in my portfolio. I will do more peices like this experimenting in collage and material as this is what I am interested in. Our exhibition is on the main page of noiselab website...http://www.noiselab.co.uk/noiselab-presents-panic-student-exhibition

The Whitworth Art Gallery

The first major UK exhibition of artist's wallpapers with work by over 30 artists including Andy Warhol, Sarah Lucas and Damien Hirst.  Kitsch ideas of home decoration are turned upside down as artists subvert the stereotypes of wallpaper to hit home messages about warfare, racism, cultural conflicts and gender.

Walking through the exhibition I noticed a lovely piece by Julie Verheoven  drawings of nudity which is only noticed at a seconglance. I was excited to see some of her work in real life I have been meaning to go to one of her exhibitions as I see her as an idol. I found other wallpapers interesting such as the eye's this is a freaky also but that's why I liked it. Their was also a few of Leigh Bowery's face on wallpaper which is a bit grotesque. I couldn't get the photos because their not available online and photographs were forbidden in the gallery.

Wallpaper, Julie Verhoeven

After looking round the exhibition me and Shauna went and had a look round the exhibition 'The complete Roberta Breitmore' by Lynn Hersham Leeson. In San Francisco in the mid-Seventies, Leeson created Roberta Breitmore and performed this persona as a work of art over a four year period, documenting it through artifacts, photography, film and sound. This extraordinary body of work, which raises questions about the complexities of identity and the nature of the work of art, has been purchased by the Whitworth in its final edition, and is shown here for the first time in its entirety. Roberta Breitmore ended when 'she' went through a ritual exorcism in 1978, but her spirit survives in this documentation and the artist's later work. It was an unordinary exhibition to others I have been to but it totally inspired me by the way she displayed her work in the frames and in the desk's like her clothing, wig and glasses was a nice touch it was definatley worth the visit! :)

Silence

Here are some of my photographs from the concertina book I made for my silence project, which I printed on to tracing paper I was happy with the outcome. My concept for silence was shadows, I took a massive amount of photographs which depict shadows. I used text, a broken heart etc printed on to acetate and reflected the shadows from these onto my skin. Found it quite hard to get a strong shadow that was visible on a camera.
